North-South Duals Recap

On January 10th, we competed in the North-South duals against McDaniel College, Springfield College, and Delaware Valley College. A few starters were out of the lineup due to injuries, but we were able to overcome obstacles and came away with a win over McDaniel College. However, we lost a close dual to top-25 ranked Springfield by the score of 27-23. Dennis Melendez was the highlight of the dual as he defeated the 8th ranked wrestler in overtime! Patryk Kopczynski also defeated a top-25 ranked opponent. But giving up a forfeit at 184 pushed Springfield ahead. We then wrestled top-10 ranked Delaware Valley to wrap up our day. Kenny Albert (125 lbs.) started off the dual with an upset win over the #6 ranked wrestler by the score of 7-3. CJ Palmer (#3) and Jesse Bader (#9) both came away with wins, too. Dennis and Patryk wrestled the #3 ranked wrestler at their respective weight classes. Dennis was leading most of the match, but ended up losing 7-6. Patryk lost 4-2 in the final seconds.

Turn it up a notch!

Great news came this week as the NWCA and D3wrestle.com rankings were released. We now have 3 wrestlers ranked in the NWCA rankings – CJ Palmer (#3), Jesse Bader (#9), and Dennis Melendez (#8). The D3wrestle.com rankings have Hunter ranked as #19 in the country! It is an exciting time to be a Hawk!

Note that the NCAA D3 National Championships will be held in Hershey, PA this March 13-14th. Hershey is less than 3 hours away from NYC. I think that it would be great to have your support at the National tournament this year. The host hotel will be the Hershey Lodge (www.hersheylodge.com).

Be sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter (@HCwrestlingNYC) for all updates. I’m hoping to see you all next weekend at the Hawk’s Nest!

Help Us Grow the Hunter Wrestling Program

Our fundraising goal for 2014-2015 is $6,000 to defray travel costs, supply team equipment, and build an operating budget to carry into the 2015-16 season. We are currently at $1,800, which is a great start, but we need to keep building. In addition to donations, we are also selling dri-fit Hunter Wrestling tshirts that can be bought at Hunter next Saturday. $20 per shirt. See you then!
