NYC Represented at Pan-American Junior Championships

Yesterday in Havana, Cuba, Destane Garrick placed fourth at the 2015 UWW Junior Pan-American Championships in the 72 kg. division. The graduate of Wingate High School (Brooklyn, NY) is no stranger to success. Her high school wrestling accomplishments include being a New York City Mayor’s Cup Champion, a PSAL Girls Champion, a third place finalist at the USA Wrestling Nationals, and a 5x All-American.

Garrick is just the fourth female from the Beat the Streets program to be named to the Junior Pan-American Team in the past four years. During the 2014 Beat the Streets gala, Garrick was the recipient of the Lady Liberty Award. An award reserved for the female wrestler who best exhibits the characteristics of leadership and promise in Gotham City wrestling. Garrick is currently a freshman at Springfield Technical Community College, where she trains under the leadership of Coach Anibal Nieves, a former Olympic wrestler.
