This past weekend, the Columbia Lions went to action against very difficult Division I competition as they had a pair of home duals against Bucknell and Lock Haven. On Saturday, the Lions wrestled Bucknell during Alumni Night. In a back-and-forth dual, the Lions rallied from a 12-10 deficit to come out on top in a 22-17 victory. The win improved their dual record to 3-8 this season. The following day, Columbia welcomed #18 Lock Haven who before the dual held a 9-2 record. Columbia, who were significant underdogs coming in, found itself on the short end of a very close bout. Splitting the matches 5 to 5, bonus points were the difference maker as the dual ended with close 21-19 team score. New York City and Beat the Streets alumnus, Andrew Psomas emerged with a big win for the team. Tied 5-5 going into overtime, Psomas continued to push the pace and forced his opponent into a stall call, winning the match 6-5. Next weekend the Columbia Lions travel to Ithaca, NY to wrestle Cornell on February 3rd.
Oh by the way, did we mention that Olympic Gold Medalist Frank Chamizo of Italy has been spending time in the Columbia wrestling room? Word on the street is Chamizo LOVES the Big Apple!
